Student Teaching
My student teaching experience was completed in the Spring of 2016 in the Hamilton City School District (Hamilton, Ohio). Hamilton City School District is an urban district with a highly diverse student population. I completed my experience at Wilson Middle School, with eighth grade students, and at Riverview Elementary School, with Kindergarten through sixth grade students.
Wilson Middle SchoolExpressive Monster Mugs
The first project I completed with the eighth grade students was a ceramic mug, inspired by the artwork of Mitchell Grafton. The students created monsters that had distinct facial expressions, and learned about the coil-building process, and how different parts of the face changed with different emotions. Olympic Medals The second project I worked on with the eighth grade students was based on Olympic medal design. The students designed medals based on something they thought they were good at, and learned copper tooling and weaving processes to create their design. |

Riverview Elementary School
Kindergarten + First
"Roll-a-Miro" Paintings K + 1 students created watercolor paintings based on the surrealist artwork of Joan Miro. Using a special game board, students rolled dice to create crazy "creatures" and designs. |
Second + Third
Self-Portraits with Instruments 2 + 3 students learned about the Harlem Renaissance, and created self-portraits with instruments based on the paintings of William H. Johnson. |
Fourth
Greek Narrative Amphoras 4th grade students looked at ancient greek pottery, and developed amphora designs in which two figures were interacting to create a story. The designs were transferred to scratch board, to resemble the black-figure process of decoration. |
Fifth + Sixth
Illuminated Letters 5 + 6 students learned about the illumination process in the Middle Ages. They created an illuminated letter that focused on a theme, which would carry through the letter, border, and images involved in the final creation. |
