The Periodic Table of Artists

Picture

The periodic table of artists builds on an original idea presented by Jessica Whittingham of the Walker School at the NAEA 2015 National Convention.  The purpose is to show students the transferrable relationship between science and the arts, by highlighting that periods of art history are divided by similar characteristics, like the elements on the scientific table.

This project took approximately two months to complete, working closely with Dr. Stephanie Danker throughout the process.  My periodic table matches the correct dimensions of the Scientific periodic table, and each of the 90 cards have at least an image of the artist's work on the back (many also featuring fun facts about the artist and their work).  This display would ideally be used as an out-the-door activity in a K-12 classroom.  The students would be able to pick out a card at the end of class and learn about an artist together.
